Earning herself more than one Emmy and Golden Globe Award nomination for her portrayal of Nellie Ruth "Nell" Harper, Nell Carter brought this 1980s comedy sitcom to life. GIMME A BREAK! focused on the spirited Kanisky family. Not your typical family, the Kaniskys consisted of three daughters, their widowed father, and their housekeeper (Carter). With her strong opinions and humorous maternal instincts, Nellie's role extended far beyond that of a normal housekeeper, giving the sitcom its punchy premise. GIMME A BREAK! - SEASON ONE includes all 22 episodes from the show's debut season (featuring Danny Glover, Helen Hunt, and others in guest-starring roles), as well as a preview episode from the series' sophomore season.
