Pros: Moody, visually inventive, with Lugosi’s fine performance
Cons: Some stodgy acting, clumsy story development, and the languid pacing can slip into sluggishness.
The Bottom Line: Exceptional horror film, one of the best of the time period, with impressive borrowed sets, archetypal story and characters, and one of Lugosi’s finest portrayals.
