Position Summary:
SHOP.COM is looking for a database programmer with expertise in database design and development for object oriented applications in high performance, multi-terabyte SQL Server databases. We have a high performance JAVA web application built on an ORM, and we are looking for someone who is good at translating between OO modeling principles and good database design practices, while helping the development team maximize performance. You will also develop knowledge of the data models and help create and support backend data analytics and reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Developing and optimizing queries, stored procedures, and views for stability, scalability and efficiency.
Designing and optimizing database schema, architecture, queries, and complex stored procedures, primarily for site performance and secondarily for backend data warehousing needs.
Assist and advise developers with new projects and work with developers in identifying, resolving and proactively working to prevent performance or other production impacting issues.
Consult with internal customers and team members to design and code to meet their needs.
Locating and fixing bugs in the existing SQL code base in a timely manner.
Proactively foster TSQL best practices.
Complies with company policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as needed.
Requirements:
Strong hands-on experience Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.
Familiarity with software engineering principles: OO, Agile, and experience supporting development of OO applications.
Familiarity with high-throughput OLTP environments, with large databases.
Experience with querying large data sets and troubleshooting performance issues
Some experience in MS SSIS preferred.
Working Conditions and Environment
Early morning, late night and weekend hours required during releases and critical project periods.
Continuously use a computer, see, sit, and engage in repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, fingers and grasping.
Frequently decipher visual acuity, including color and depth.
Intermittently talk and hear.
