SHOPCOM Names Karen Casella VP of Engineering
MONTEREY, Calif. MAY 16, 2008 SHOPCOM , the destination comparison shopping engine that merchandises to women, today announced that Karen Casella, vice president of site development, has been given the expanded role of vice president of engineering, adding search engine development, site operations, database administration and information technology to her responsibilities. In her new role, Casella will be instrumental in supporting SHOPCOM s new media platform that offers merchants multiple advertising solutions including cost-per-click and cost-per-order programs. With more than 25 years of experience in engineering and software development leadership, Casella joined SHOPCOM in 2005 as vice president of site development. In her new role as the vice president of engineering, Casella will be responsible for all aspects of software development, quality assurance and worldwide site operations.
Throughout her three years at SHOPCOM , Karen has proven her value time and time again, says Vince Hunt, chief technology officer at SHOPCOM . By pulling development, QA, database architecture and IT together under Karens guidance, we will be able to meet SHOPCOM s evolving business goals quickly and efficiently.
Karens experience in e-commerce, development process and web services has been a tremendous addition to the SHOPCOM team. Prior to joining SHOPCOM , Casella served as director of application architecture at eBay, Inc. She also worked for eleven years at Sun Microsystems where she was instrumental in driving the companys e-commerce solutions and evolving its web services technology solutions. A well-respected technologist, Casella has published several articles and papers in the areas of network security, web services and e-commerce technologies and is a frequent speaker at industry events. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
