So many brands offers such a wide range of styles and options in something you'd expect to be a fairly basic necessity, so it can be difficult to sort through them all and choose what's best for you and your baby. We hope to take some of the confusion out of shopping for bottles with this quick guide.
Starting at the top -- alphabetically, that is -- Avent from Philips offers a clever bottle trainer kit, which includes the bottle base, a bottle nipple and a soft non-spill spout. They also offer a breast pump kit which includes two bottles with nipples, sealing discs and a travel pack.
The First Years offers a Soothie bottle set, which are made in the same way as their Soothie pacifiers. Five bottles are packaged with two types of bottle nipples for different stages and milk flow plush three storage containers, a pacifier and a bottle brush.
Medela might not be as well known as other brands, but their quality is excellent, and they offer traditional glass baby bottles as well as the plastic versions with disposable liners. Their Haberman SpecialNeeds feeder is a unique design for babies with facial or oral problems which prevent them from maintaining adequate suction for feeding.
The baby bottles from Sassy offer anti-colic features, including a vented system that reduces air intake. The orthodontic nipple is made of ultra soft silicone and encourages baby to use a natural suckling action similar to breast-feeding.
Evenflo is another favorite, especially the Purely Comfi angled bottles which keep the milk at a level that prevents air from entering the nipple. A new development here is that grips have been added on the sides of the bottle, so both you and your baby will find them easier to hold without slipping.
