Finding the Perfect Crib for Your Baby
Buying a
crib is a fun experience, between picking out a good match for the rest of your furniture and making sure you've researched all the safety features you need to consider. While the crib or
bassinet in your grandmother's attic looks beautiful, you have to consider that safety guidelines are updated all the time, and to avoid falls or pinched little fingers, a new crib is a must.
Graco is a good place to start, with several lovely options in naturally-finished hardwoods. Many cribs are available as sets with a
changing table, but our favorites for the long run are convertible cribs, which eventually turn into
toddler beds and then
daybeds for older children.
Shermag also carries
convertible cribs, featuring a dramatic design with storage drawers underneath to keep your
crib bedding organized. Overall, their cribs are painted white with smooth, naturally-finished wood panels.
Sorelle offers a similar dual-tone style, but we really like their elegant, larger cribs like the Cape Cod, which includes a built-in
changing station. If you're still shopping for the right convertible crib after all of these choices, take a look at
Carter's for rich wood tones and classical lines.
One the other hand, if you'd prefer a more traditional crib, we recommend
Delta, which does offer convertible versions as well, but their arched Liberty in light pine is a terrific classic choice. You may have also noticed that convertible cribs tend to follow a similar design, but Delta's sleigh cribs are nicely different, though they also change into toddler beds and day beds as your child grows, because of their elegant shapes.
