The highchair tray needs to be easy to remove and put back on for cleaning, and even if you happen to have a child who doesn't wriggle around, for safety's sake, restraints are very important.
We really like the options Chicco provides, with both their hook-on high chairs that attach to a dining table and their standalone Polly style. The Chicco 360 hook-on chair is a brilliant design, locking in six different positions so you can feed baby from any place at the table. Their Polly is also very well made, with locking casters and a sturdy frame, a comfortable back and seat cushion, and a five-point safety harness.
Safety 1st is another good choice, particularly their Serve 'n Store high chair with an excellent, well-padded cushion, a slide-guard between the legs, and a serving tray that can easily be removed with one hand. We also like Fisher-Price for two distinct options: their Space Saver is almost a booster chair since it sits on top of a dining chair, but the added tray makes this more of a hybrid. Their Zen collection is simply gorgeous, with sweeping wood legs and a richly textured cushion. Both the double feeding tray and the harness are dishwasher safe.
Eddie Bauer does a beautiful job with classical styles, using bead-board to accent natural finishes like cherry and walnut. By comparison, Stokke high chairs are purely modern, but if you want a high chair that adjusts as your child grows, the Tripp Trapp is a very good choice for kids 6 months old through their teen years.
