Having a baby thermometer around is a necessity to see if your baby needs professional medical attention or not. American Red Cross makes thermometers especially for babies, called The First Years. They have rectal and ear thermometers for the best gauge and accuracy. They vary from 5 to 10 second readings.

Summer Infant also has some three-in-one thermometers that can be used for the whole family. Some come with exchangeable tips for ear, underarm, oral or rectal gauging. They also make forehead thermometer strips that aren't as intrusive but aren't as accurate either.
Other brands that make baby thermometers are ProGrade and Especially for Baby. The ProGrade thermometer is a little more expensive but you can take a child's temperature while they are sleeping. It can be placed above the forehead and is very accurate. It can be used for anyone in the family and can also be used to determine food, formula and bath temperatures.
