Staying in Style
There are many hair styling products, which can turn our everyday hair into works of art. There are
hairsprays,
gels,
mousse, and much more. Understanding what the products are for is the key to making the right selection.
Hairsprays are probably the simplest styling product to understand. They are designed to hold the hairstyle in place. They come in a range of strengths from a light
hold for a casual down hairstyle, to extreme hold for an up hairstyle you do not want to move. They can also have additional benefits such as adding
volume or
moisture.
Products designed to add texture as well as hold come in many varieties including hair gels, mousses,
putties,
clays,
pastes and
creams. Gels are used primarily for styling and hold. Mousses are typically used for longer hair to add some volume, styling and hold to a longer down hairstyle. Putties, clays and pastes are used for sculpting hairstyles with a bit of an edge to them. Each type will provide a slightly different texture to the hair from smooth and slick to stiff and immovable. They all will provide some form of hold to the style. Creams are typically used to add a glossy shine and softness to the hair.
Whatever the styling product you choose, professionals recommend starting with just a little bit of the product and adding just a little more at a time if needed. Too much product can be more damaging to a hairstyle than no product at all, and the only way to undo too much product is to wash and start over.
Many beauty editors love
Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer because it is affordable and gives your face a nice, healthy glow.
Lancaster is also a great brand, although a bit higher-priced. For your face, we recommend
Olay Regenerist's Touch of Sun tanner. These brands will give you a nice, gradual, glow that will look natural and smell nice too!
