How to Buy the Right Body Lotion and Body Oils
Do you ever look at someone's skin and wonder why it looks so young and fresh? If you find yourself coveting softer skin, it might be because you need to take just a few extra steps beyond using soap to get it. Soap is great for skin, even if it's a
moisturizing soap, but most of the time it's just not enough to make skin smooth and silky.
You need a high quality
body lotion or cream as part of your bathing regimen in order to get skin as soft as possible. Dermatologists usually recommend that you use body lotion right after showering, while your pores are open from the heat of the shower.
Look for body lotions that have essential oils like sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, or sesame oils in them.
Medicated lotions like Eucerin or Gold Bond lotions are great for very dry skin, and brands like
Dermarest are great for eczema or psoriasis too. For very dry skin, consider buying a body lotion with alpha-hydroxy or some natural fruit acids. Make sure that any body lotion you buy has a decent amount of
SPF to protect your skin from the sun..
If you're willing to spend some money, try
La Mer,
Estee Lauder, or Sisley. Overall, however, most drugstore brands of body lotion like Lubriderm, St. Ives, Neutrogena, and Jergens should do the trick just fine.
For added softness, use body
oil after showering but before applying body lotion. Korres has a nice selection of body-softening oils made with great scents like wild rose, while Neutrogena carries possibly the most popular body oil, their sesame oil which has been proven to soften skin almost immediately after using.
