Handmade by Roberto Lepe

Roberto Lepe was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco. He has been in contact with traditional handcrafts and the artistic environment since birth, thanks to his parents and godfather, and is today one of the finest designers and candle producers in Mexico:

"I started approximately four years ago, inspired and supported by my godfather, Jorge Wilmont - renowned and respected for his revival of traditional artwork in Jalisco. I started a small workshop with the idea of achieving something different and innovative, of the highest quality; keeping the functionality of candles while transmitting the beauty and Indigenous spirit of the Mexican rustic style. My philosophy has been to focus on reinforcing our indigenous and local resources, not depending on imports to avoid debilitating the extraordinary craftsmanship and design of our indigenous artists. I believe you will see and appreciate this beauty and live its spirit through my candles."

The intricate process of candle making starts by melting paraffin and bee wax and then pouring it into the molds. It then sets for one or two days, according to the size of the candle. Then it is taken from the mold and perforated with a hot rod to introduce the wick, previously prepared with wax so it will keep in the center of the candle, ensuring an even burn. Finally, the candle is treated and flamed to clear any imperfections and acquire a smooth, even finish.

Roberto is constantly innovative with his designs, trying new techniques and colors for the enjoyment of whomsoever owns his candles, always keeping to the handcrafting process that makes his candles so unique.
