Cedar and mahogany sculpture, 'Happy Huayno Dance'

Donning the colorful costumes of the Huayno, a couple executes the most legendary dance of the Peruvian Andes. It dates back to the Inca Empire and it is performed in Ayacucho, Cuzco, Junin, Puno, Huancavelica and Apurimac. Each region has its own stylized version of this happy, energetic dance. John Barrow sculpts this piece for his ""Folklore"" series, inspired by Peru's beautiful regional traditions. He works with hand-carved segments of cedar, mahogany and ishpingo woods, which he dyes with natural pigments.
