Tunic Tops: Stylish and Comfortable

Wearing a tunic is comfortable. They are usually made of linen or cotton, sometimes silk and historically were worn in areas of the world that were dry and arid, like in Turkey or Morocco. Tunics were one of the first types of clothing man wore in ancient times and they still exist today, keeping you cool with light fabrics and are easy to move in because of their loose fit and lightness.
Both men and women wear tunics and they often are made in ethnic prints. Michael Kors, the king of sportswear, has solid and printed tunics in his collection. Some are ethnically inspired while others are solid, striped or patterned made with half sleeves, ¾ sleeves or are sleeveless.
Guess has modernized the tunic by making it more fitted or with a tie belt to cinch the waist, or a drop waist tie so the tunic 'flounces'. They make button-down tunics in sheer fabrics, embroidered tunics, and fitted one-sleeve tunics. They are creative with their style yet stick to the tunic look.
Embellished tunics bring the tunic into an evening look and no one does it better than Diane Gilman. Using very light and whimsical fabrics with beautiful prints, her tunics are adorned with jewels, beads or sequins to make every tunic sparkle.
Ed Hardy uses their signature prints on sleeveless and short-sleeved tunics. They look great paired with a pair of skinny jeans and hard-core stilettos. New York & Company has also gotten sexy on us with their embellished tunics with shoulder slits or their cami tunics. They also make button down half-sleeve tunics that pair great with leggings or the new 'jeggings'.
Other brands that have a nice selection of tunics are the Gap and Lucky Brand Jeans. Their tunics are casual and go great with their denim shorts, capris or jeans.
If you want to stay cool, yet look sophisticated or even sexy, a tunic is a good look. You will feel comfortable and carefree wearing them to the beach, to an outing, dressed up, day casual or even out for the evening. Knowing what occasion you want to wear a tunic to, the colors you like, and size and amount you want to spend will help you choose the perfect tunic for you.
