How to Shop for LoungewearThe best way to describe loungewear is that it's what you might wear to bed -- like pajamas or nightgowns -- but you're just as likely to relax in it in front of the television to wind down your day. Expect an emphasis on comfort, although many styles range from cute to flirty, depending on the designer.
In fact, Velrose sleepwear does a lovely job here for ladies, with many floral-printed and lace-trimmed pullover styles of caftan sleepwear. Each gown is made from a flowing nylon and tricot blend, and both short and long-sleeve pajamas are also available in a similar knit with a lovely variety of colors.
By comparison, Carole Hochman leans toward country cute with seersucker duster dresses in pretty prints with ruffled hems, as well as 100% cotton pajamas with picot trims. Women will also enjoy the delicate styles from Karen Neuburger, such as the nightshirts in eyelet prints with front pockets, or the too-cute front-zippered lounge robe with two generous pockets and a velvet-trimmed collar and sleeves.
Gentlemen certainly prefer comfort, although they also like lounging in something that looks nice, and Hanes does a great job on both fronts with sleep shorts, PJs and lounge pants in soft jersey cotton. Expect plaids and solids for the most part, and coordinating t-shirts are often sold as part of a set. Ed Hardy|Ed Hardy adds a bit more flair with their pajama bottoms showcasing tattoo-inspired graphics along one or both legs.
Don't forget the kids at heart -- Disney certainly hasn't with their lounge pants for men and women in the prints you know you'd really like to wear, from classic Mickey Mouse to Tinkerbell and Eeyore to the Nightmare Before Christmas. Expect fabrics to vary a great deal here, giving you several options from fleece to cotton to long-lasting polyester, and consider the weather you're shopping for before you buy.
