Creating an identification model for economically disadvantaged, potentially gifted students in Korea.

The goals of this study were to assess the evidence-based, research-supported identification practices in the United States and create an identification model for economically disadvantaged, potentially gifted students in Korea.;This study addressed the following questions: (1) How can evidence-based practices and related recommended identification guidelines be adapted for economically disadvantaged, potentially gifted students in the United States? (2) How do current gifted education teachers in Korea evaluate the proposed model?;This study was conducted by analyzing evidence-based identification practices for these disadvantaged students and in-depth telephone interviews with Korean gifted education teachers. The evidence-based practices for identifying these disadvantaged students in the United States have resulted in a comprehensive framework for including more disadvantaged students in gifted programs. The majority of gifted education teachers in Korea indicated that Kim's Reach-Out model adequately employed multiple criteria and data from multiple sources, and properly reduced testing bias by using nonverbal tests.
