Daughter

Overview
Commentary
Miriam was raised by an overprotective mother, and consequently she raised her own daughter, Aya, with too much strictness and not much love. Aya's father, Bird, was a returned Vietnam vet who was harassed and finally shot by the police for no other crime than being a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time. When teenage Aya is accidentally shot and killed by a policeman in Brooklyn, Miriam looks back over her own life and is wrenched by what she sees.
