Kick back and get smooth with the sensuous vocal talents of Kelly, La Tavia, Le Toya, and Beyonce. With the help of Wyclef Jean and others, the Houston quartet has assembled an impressive range of grooves, loaded with scintillating harmonies. While each member has come to develop a distinct voice, they flow naturally together into a distinct group sound, a new force on the scene. Whether the focus is on synthesizer or classical guitar, the instrumentation is diverse and smartly arranged, complementing the soulful quality of the songs.
There's a genuine sense of R&B history here--the floating Fender-Rhodes piano and a rendition of the Commodores' "Sail On" nod to the groovy past, while the group's tight harmonies and a booming bass pave the way to the future. Witness a musical climb to the top of the mountain on tracks like "Second Nature" and "Show Me The Way." If these ladies don't get your butt moving, something ain't right.
Reviews
Q (11/01, p.137) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...The signs of future world domination were in place: proper songs, star guests...and the best harmonies since, well, En Vogue..."
Vibe (2/98, p.124) - "More earnest than Allure, but less inspiring than 702, Destiny's Child are yet another urban-chic girl group out to entice listeners with sultry vocals and apple-pie innocence..."

The Debut of Destiny's Child: "It's Such a Struggle to Win the Reward..."
by blindsider , 11/21/2005
Pros: Great vocals. Relaxing. Some truly wonderful lyrics
Cons: So, the immaturity shines through occasionally - but c'mon, they were 15 & 16
The Bottom Line: Long before the controversies, long before the solo stuff, long before Jay-Z, long before the member changes, long before the massive popularity...there was this.
Review: Splitsville . . . throwing in the towel . . . going their separate ways . . . As many people already

Pros: Some great production; great lyrics; great harmonies
Cons: an awful sequel; Beyoncé sings too much; boring song or two
The Bottom Line: For a debut album, this is really good but dont judge Destinys Child by this CD alone. Theyre much more talented than this.
Review: The Main Idea: Before Destinys Child blew up to mega-stardom and changed more members than hair wea

It's Destiny's Child Before The Bells, Whistles, Bubblegum, And Beyonce's Abnormal Catcalls
by broomqueesha , 9/13/2003
Pros: Great production; it's their best effort to date. The four-part harmonies are to die for!
Cons: It wasn't nearly as successful as it should have been.
The Bottom Line: Destiny's Child is the group's only true R&B effort.
Review: The Main Idea: In 1998, before the bubblegum teeny-bopper craze really took over, a quartet of young
