Finding the Perfect Marine Case for All-Weather Pictures

It is never a good idea to let a digital camera get wet because the moisture can ruin it. Unlike other electronics, cameras should not even be damp-much less submerged in water-which is where a marine case comes in handy.
Marine cases, also called weatherproof cases, allow you to shoot and carry your digital camera in all conditions. Brands such as Canon and Olympus manufacture marine cases specific to their products. Choosing accessories made specifically for your digital camera can avoid problems in the future.
There are Canon WP models for all different models of Canon equipment, so make sure the product codes match up with your specific camera. The same goes for purchasing marine cases for Olympus or other brand cameras.
Before you buy a weatherproof case, determine where and when you will be shooting your camera. A DC case, for example, might indicate that it will protect your camera at depths up to 40 feet, which means you cannot shoot underwater at 50 feet without risking damage to your equipment.
Consider as well the prices for marine cases, which can range from under $100 to more than $300. Buying on the lower end is always a gamble, which is why product research comes in handy.
Some marine cases are meant for camcorders or for digital cameras equipped with lenses. Consider the setup you plan to use before buying. For example, if you will be using an SLR body with a telephoto lens, you will need to purchase a marine case that will accommodate the extended lens.
You might also want to buy a marine case with a neck strap for those occasions when you will be walking a long way. Not only does this free up your hands, but it will also help stabilize your camera for difficult shots.
