Types of Lawn Trimmers

When it comes to lawn maintenance, most homeowners know that keeping a consistent schedule results in both a cleaner looking lawn and less strain. Essential to lawn maintenance is finding the right tools to make your task as simple as possible. Fortunately, there are many products on the market from lawn mowers to edgers and lawn trimmers that minimize the hassles of lawn maintenance.
Unlike lawn mowing, lawn edging and trimming doesn't need to be done every few days. Maintaining lawn edges is only required every few months, while trimming should be done about twice a month depending on season. If your lawn is very compact, you might be able to use simple gardening shears for the purposes of trimming, but most plots will require trimmers to get the job done without much strain.
The most inexpensive types of trimmers and edging tools are simple bladed tools powered by human force. These simple tools are very inexpensive, but they're really only intended for the most compact of plots. When it comes to edging and especially trimming, most homeowners require a power trimmer. Power trimmers are either gas-powered or electric powered. Electric trimmers are either battery operated or electric-corded.
Gas trimmers weigh more than the other power trimmers. Between ten and fifteen pounds, they can be taxing to maneuver after a while, but at the same time, they're very powerful, and usually get the job done effectively with less time. Decent gas trimmers, such as those by the popular manufacturer Black and Decker, can be found for about 200 dollars.
Electric trimmers usually weigh no more than five pounds, which make them easier to maneuver. Yet, the corded trimmers are somewhat less convenient simply because of the chord required. As anyone with a large plot knows, dealing with electric chords when performing lawn maintenance is often a hassle in itself. If you have a smaller plot, however, electric trimmers are an excellent way to go. Battery operated cordless trimmers are even less powerful than the chord-powered trimmers, but they're much more easily maneuvered. Again, these are most ideal for smaller plots as the battery usually doesn't give you more than 30 minutes of power time. Manufacturers such as Craftsman and Toro also offer a good selection of trimmers and edgers, and if you're interested in electric options, you can easily find some choices for less than 100 dollars.
