Commentary
"Recovering hellion" Cyd Charisse (after the famed entertainer) reaches the breaking point with her mother and stepfather and her boyfriend, Shrimp, and has only her childhood doll, Gingerbread, to confide in. The 16-year-old is dispatched from her San Francisco home to New York City for the summer, to stay with her father, whom she has met only once.
