How to Choose the Best Comforters & Duvets

If you're in the process of redecorating your bedroom, one of your first considerations will be the bedding. Though you may already have a color scheme, making it easy to choose your sheets, there's one place in which people tend to get stuck: should you choose a bedspread, a comforter, or a duvet, and what is the difference, anyway? To get you started, we'll be covering both comforters and duvets in this quick guide.
Comforters are just long enough to cover the gap between your mattresses. They tend to be thick and warm, essentially a quilted blanket. We sincerely appreciate the quality that goes into certain brands of comforters, with Croscill, Highland Feather and Nautica vying for the top spot on our list.
A duvet, on the other hand, is actually a type of bedding, rather like a futon mattress, although it is usually laid over a bed and used as a covering, too. Duvets are not quite as wide as comforters, and unlike the synthetic filling in a comforter, duvets are usually filled with down or feathers.
For duvets, Royal Velvet uses ultra-soft down and coordinating reversible fabrics to bring you more value. Southern Textiles offers a wide range of beautiful feather-filled fabrics with a variety of cuddle-worthy textures. Finally, Ed Hardy makes a remarkably inexpensive line of duvets for children and adults, yet the quality remains very high, as machine washable cotton sateen in detailed prints and careful stitching make this a smart option for cost-conscious shoppers.
