First determine what type of broom you're looking for. Traditional broomcorn brooms are usually made with corn, sorghum, or other fibers and work very well because of the stiffness of the bristles. These days most brooms are made with synthetic fibers like polyester or plastic, but usually work just as well. Think about what style of broom you want: an angled, fan, sweeper, or small whisk broom.
Procter & Gamble, Rubbermaid, and 3M|3M all make good quality brooms and mops, and are affordable too.
