Oster blenders have been around for decades and is well-known for its powerful blenders. They have even brought back the silver retro-blender once so popular in the 1950's and was every housewife's dream appliance. They also make the old-fashioned malt and milkshake blenders, as well as hand and tabletop blenders. Many of their tabletop versions have different speeds for chopping and blending and are quite easy to clean.
Another brand well-known for its outstanding performance small kitchen appliances is KitchenAid. They are durable, designed to be easy-to-clean, and most have multiple speeds to blend smoothies, puree vegetables for soup, and crush ice. They all have stainless steel blades for excellent blending power. Their hand blenders are also very easy to use and come with a blender, whisk and chopper attachments.
Other excellent brands that follow in the same lines as Oster and KitchenAid are Cuisinart, Black & Decker and Hamilton Beach. We find Cuisinart's blenders to be very durable and powerful. They are able to chop and blend a variety of ways and are easy to clean. Hamilton Beach has the most variety of styles all at very reasonable prices, and Black & Decker makes some high capacity blenders, great for large servings.
For top-end blenders, look to Waring and Vita-Mix for the ultimate and professional blending experience.
When choosing a blender for you, think about how often you might use it. Do you like a smoothie every morning for breakfast? Do you eat chopped vegetables often? If you do, then go for a blender that will last and look for durability. If you use a blender once in a while, then there are many styles and capacities to choose from.
