If you do cooking demonstrations, hot plates are great for that too. They are great for keeping foods warm on the table while you eat as well. Some come with 2 burners and others one, some use stainless steel and ceramic glass tops, some use LED displays and touch pad controls and some are fairly simple with a knob for temperature and a coil heat source. If it is your sole heating source for cooking food, we recommend getting a high quality more durable hot plate. If you use it infrequently and only for certain dishes or to keep food warm at a very low temperature, then you can probably spend less because it's used less.
For induction heat, Avanti makes a very slick hot plate design with digital controls. Heat is instant ao there is no waiting time at all! Nemco has some very good hot plates that are raised for better airflow. They are still light to transport and heating is fast. Their hot plates come in double or single burners.
Broil King makes a variety of different style of hot plates. They have one that can double as a griddle because the heating space is entirely flat. Others have a single or double coil burner and others use cast iron and flat burners for easy clean up.
Other comparable brands that have similar styles and price ranges are Deni, Aroma and Proctor Silex. They make quality hot plates with similar features.
Whether you live in a dorm and like to cook your own food, are on a camping trip or cook certain Asian dishes and eat while you cook, there are several selections of hot plates for you to choose from. Much of it depends on how much you would like to spend and how often you will use it.
