They are also great for children's rooms when they are suffering from a cold. They help ease breathing and keep nasal passages moist. If you live in dry areas of the world, a humidifier keeps humidity levels normal and prevents cracking and drying of wood, pianos, and other things that need a certain level of moisture. When choosing the right humidifier for your needs, look at how many square feet it can humidify, how many gallons of water it can hold, and if you need cool vapor or warm vapor. These can determine how much a humidifier will cost as well.
Honeywell makes a wide variety of humidifiers that come in variable sizes. The cool vapor humidifiers need filters to be replaced every 60-90 days, but are very easy to find and many people prefer cool vapor to warm vapor humidifiers. Many of their humidifiers have auto shutoff, controls for moisture output and are dishwasher safe. Their sizes are good for a bedroom and the tank will have to be filled more often. Warm mist humidifiers don't need filters but need consistent cleaning to eliminate mold or mildew from forming. Honeywell has the largest selection of humidifiers and many brands make filters that fit in their units.
For other warm or cool vapor models, Kenmore has some units that have a humidistat that will maintain a preset humidity level. Some of the larger units can humidify almost 2,000 square feet. Most have displays that will tell you when you need to refill the water tank.
Hunter, Venta, Duracraft and Trion all make filters for cool vapor humidifiers. Some humidifiers come with ionizer sticks to ward off bacteria but many humidifiers rely on the filters to get rid of bacteria and to ensure clean vapor comes out.
So when your home gets too dry from having the heat on or if you are suffering from a cold or have allergies, a humidifier is your answer. It keeps the air in your home balanced for a healthier body and home.
