How to Buy a Meat Grinder

Did you know that you can grind your own meat? You can add all your favorite spices and ingredients right there with freshly ground meat. You can buy your meat in bulk and you will know exactly what is in your ground meat all with a meat grinder. When choosing which one to buy, consider how often you will grind meat and the amount you will usually grind. Other things to consider are how much power you want from a grinder, can you add an attachment to your standing mixer, how easy is it to clean, and does it come with different blades for different types of mea
Waring makes a stainless steel electric meat grinder with a 300 watt motor. It includes two sausage attachments and three cutting plates for fine, medium and coarse ground meat. Kalorik and Chefs Choice both make comparable electric meat grinders with similar blades and attachments.
For a good heavy duty meat grinder, look to Maximatic with thickness control and a high torque motor that can grind over three pounds of meat per minute. It comes with the attachments to make sausage too.
Manual meat grinders are great if you want that old fashioned charm, but we suggest these for those who don't grind meat often because grinding too much meat can become very tiresome and wear a lot on the grinder. They are much cheaper than their electric counterparts but you can also mince garlic and make pasta in them too. Norpro makes some very nice manual grinders that also make sausage too.
Other brands that make heavy duty, quality meat grinders are Back to Basics and KitchenAid.
If you grind a lot of meat, then a meat grinder is a necessary component among your kitchen appliances.
