French (head of the School of Architecture & Design at the Royal College of Art, London, the UK) presents a survey of 87 examples of multiple housing, arranged in chronological order from the late 19th century through 2007, that are found in Japan, Europe, and North America. The entry for each example includes a description of the project, a site plan, plans of typical apartments, and, often, an elevation of the whole building. Each entry also includes color photos of the building and rooms. An opening chapter introduces the building type and its most noted architects.
