Simon Rattle's conducting is "beautifully paced, totally in command of the sometimes complex interaction between the stage and the pit, and drawing some ravishing sounds from the London Philharmonic." - The Sunday Telegraph. L'Heure Espagnole - This one-act opera buffa concerns Torquemada, a Spanish clockmaker, who in order to wind and regulate the town's clock each week, must leave his attractive young wife alone in the house for an hour. Maurice Sendak's delightfully animated set comprises a huge baroque facade complete with working clocks and carved emblems.
