If you're been using your credit card to buy gifts, gas or groceries over the holidays, you may have a purse overflowing with paper receipts. Should you keep them or is it safe to shred them? While you probably wouldn't need those receipts at any other time of the year, says CNBC personal finance expert Carmen Wong Ulrich, now is one of the few times when it pays to put them in a safe place for a little while. You'll need your receipts if you're planning to return one of the items that you purchased, so hold onto them until you're sure that all the gifts you bought fit the recipients.
