Morris the Artist
Overview
Commentary
Morris has been invited to his friend Benjamin's birthday party, but when he gets there he refuses to give Benjamin the gift he got him--Morris wants it for himself. However, as the day progresses, the gift gets bigger and bigger, preventing Morris from enjoying the party with his friends. Finally, Morris opens the present and finds a way to share his gift with Benjamin and all the guests at the party. Color illustrations accompany the text. Named a 2003 Notable Book by the New York Times Book Review.
Publisher's Notes
It's Benjamin's birthday. The present Morris brings to give Benjamin is what Morris would like to get himself, and he refuses to hand it over. But Morris can't have fun at a party while he's holding on to a package. The longer he holds it, the bigger it seems to get. It grows into one enormous nuisance, and the only way to get rid of it is to open it up. Morris's present turns out to be something marvelous for everyone to do.
