Optical Biopsy of Uterine Cervix Using a Multispectral Imaging Colposcope

A new multispectral imaging spectroscopy system has been developed, the MIS colposcope. It aids in the in vivo detection of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. This book gives the results of a study on the use of the MIS colposcope with 123 women. Chapters cover the anatomy of the uterine cervix, cervical screening adjuncts, optical biopsy, the MIS colposcope, results, and statistical analysis of cases. Color and b&w photos and medical images are included. The study concludes that the approach described may be used as a sensitive and specific noninvasive colposcopic method for the diagnosis of cervical lesions and for the accurate classification of intraepithelial neoplasias.
