Pros: Thought provoking story about the real meaning of family.
Cons: Final chapters a little mundane; some questions better left unanswered!
The Bottom Line: The characters are the story in this novel, and the history of the statue is worth the price of admission. A very good depiction of Bostonian/liberal/Irish conflicts.

Pros: not the worst book I've read
Cons: Contrived and forced
The Bottom Line: Ann Patchett is a gifted writer, but this is not her best book. Skip this one and read "Truth and Beauty" or "The Patron Saint of Liars" instead.
