Seagate's 18.2GB Barracuda 18LP hard drive provides optimum performance and reliability for disk arrays, file servers, and supercomputers. The Barracuda 18LP features the Ultra2 SCSI interface, which delivers external transfer rates up to 80MB per second - that's double the rate of Wide Ultra SCSI! The Ultra2 SCSI Low Voltage Differential (LVD) SCSI interface provides increased performance for users of video, database servers, RAID arrays, workstations, CAD, CAM, and high-end desktop applications. Ultra2 SCSI extends the SCSI bus cable length to 12 meters and provides easy system configuration for up to fifteen peripherals. It is fully compatible with all existing SCSI standards and includes a unique Diff Sens circuit to determine the type of SCSI bus the device is being used on.

The Barracuda 18LP has received Seagate's ''AV Professional'' stamp of approval which means that Seagate has fine tuned this drive to meet the requirements of today's most demanding audio/visual applications. It features embedded-servo technology to eliminate the need to perform periodic recalibration which slows down data transfer, making this drive ideal for AV applications. Embedded-servo technology gets rid of data interruptions that cause dropped frames in video applications. The Partial Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML) technology keeps data clear from background interference and allows Seagate disk drives to increase areal density (disk capacity), boost transfer speed, improve yield through the drive's ability to self-calibrate, and lower disk noise. It also uses Advanced SCSI Architecture II (ASA II) to increase drive performance and provide easy cross-platform migration. The 3.5-inch, low profile Barracuda features an impressive 6.9ms seek time and internal transfer rates from 137 to 240Mb per second, enhancing overall drive performance. The Barracuda 18LP supports Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) to help prevent data loss and provide advance warning of drive failures.
