How to Buy Dress Wedges
Wedges are a wonderful innovation in shoes offering full support from heel to toe, without the precarious teetering you might experience with
stilettos. These can be designed as anything from
slides or
sandals to more formal
high heels, but the one thing they all have in common is that the base of every shoe is a solid wedge for the most stable base you can find.
Cole Haan is one of our favorite designers for
dress wedges because they make styles for every taste, and heels of many heights in a reasonably priced shoe. Take the black or gray suede Brandi, a tall
wedge boot with a hidden inside zipper and a comfortably padded foot bed Carma is another sample of their wide selection, a pair of
Mary Jane pumps in copper crocodile-embossed leather with a pretty peep toe.
Another, equally interesting variety of designs comes from
Steve Madden, such as the Tuscaan
wedge sandals with over three inches of heel and tiny leather straps running up and down the entire shoe. Steve Madden also has a lovely choice of leather or suede wedge boots, but their Fauntain
espadrilles are fantastic, ruffly bow-topped shoes in eight different colors with natural rope-wrapped wedge heels.
Guess puts some serious fun into their wedges, and if you don't believe that's possible, check out their Bashful and Macoya styles. Bashful features leather and fabric tops with contrasting bows, but uses a carefully made slingback style for the sides and heel with wide leather loops to keep the strap in place; a serious design in a very fun style! Macoya starts as a cork wedge
platform shoe with a covering of braided jute, and tops it with leather t-straps sporting flower cutouts and metal studs.
Don't forget
Enzo Angiolini for some gorgeous styles from casual to professional, including the lovely Pint wedge pump in copper, gold or pewter. We also love the feminine Circle wedge, which highlights your feet with teardrop cutouts around the toes and the back of the shoe.
Jessica Simpson is also an excellent choice for business or after-hours, especially with the handsome Hasher, a low-heel open-toed shoe decorated with antiqued metal studs across the vamp and around the shoe opening.
