Comfortable Fishing Shoes Make a Difference

There are a number of different types of fishing shoes. Several different factors are important when choosing fishing shoes, such as insulation, proper arch support, waterproofing, cushioning and breathability. Both hiking boots and hunting boots can be used for fishing since both provide adequate ankle and arch support. However, neither boot can provide enough protection or warmth for a full day of fishing once temperatures reach the freezing mark.
High quality boots use breathable materials, allowing sweat vapor to escape. Many boots have also been treated to prevent moisture from saturating the outer fabric and may include waterproof liners. These types of boots can be found at a number of specialty shops with such brands as Columbia, Patagonia, Rugged Shark or Merrell.
Rubber boots can also be used for boat fishing; however, high cut boots will protect the feet and lower legs while walking through wet grass or shallow waters. The best way to select a pair is to check the amount of overlap your pants cover your ankles and boots while sitting. Selecting insulated rubber boots will keep the feet warm and comfortable. Waterproof shoes are best used for warm temperatures while boots are best for cold.
Boat shoes or deck shoes are another option in selecting a different type of fishing shoes. They are water repellant with non-slip, non-marking soles with lace-up or slip-on models available. They should also provide cushioning in the midsole for absorbing the shock from bouncing in the waves with breathability features.
Sandals and clogs can be used on boats; however, they do not have the necessary cushioning for comfort, especially for all day excursions. They are designed for getting wet and do provide adequate airflow since they use mesh or have open areas.
