Select Football Shoes With Safety In Mind

The proper selection of football shoes is extremely important in preventing injuries. Football shoes come with either molded (permanent) cleats or detachable cleats. They also come in several different heights depending upon the type of position played. No matter what, the important criteria to consider in selecting football shoes are durability, safety, style and especially comfort.
Football cleats must match the shoe size for the most comfortable fit. Molded cleats are often chosen for play on turf surfaces since they provide a better grip on hard surfaces. Detachable cleats are more versatile and work in various field conditions, especially on grass. Several manufacturers, such as Nike, Adidas, LaCrosse and Reebok, provide a variety of football shoes for different needs and performances.
Football shoes come in three different heights depending upon the needs of the player. High-top football cleats are usually worn by linemen for the extra ankle support needed for lateral movements. Mid-cut football cleats are used for most skill players because they combine support with maneuverability. Low-cut football cleats are the lightest shoe with the most maneuverability and used most often by running backs. There are a number of stores that carry a variety of football cleats.
Football cleats are made of leather for durability, flexibility and comfort since they breathe easily. However, they are more expensive than the synthetic cleats. Synthetic cleats work better for the athlete that is still growing and needs a new pair often.
Some football cleats have multiple studs permanently attached to the sole. Astro-turf cleats have closely packed studs on rubber soles for use on artificial surfaces. Indoor football trainers use gum soles. The use of a shoe with too many cleats on a surface can lead to injuries since the shoe will grip too much. For slippery surfaces, football shoes with 12 to 18 studs will do. Thick, long football cleats work best for muddy surfaces while spike-covered soles work best on hardened surfaces.
