Hunting Shoes Should Protect Against the Terrain

Hunting and shooting shoes hunting & shooting shoes are more durable and heavier than regular hiking boots. This is because hunting requires walking through more rugged terrain and maneuvering about so that the game does not see you.
Low-cut hunting shoes provide traction without the weight and can be worn for short stints of walking, tracking or stalking your prey over less rugged terrain. However, hunting boots are needed for the longer and more rugged outing, giving the added support for your ankles and protection from the terrain and elements.
High-quality hunting and shooting shoes are made of either leather, fast drying synthetic materials or a combination of both. There are two types of leather used: full grain or split grain. Full grain leather is the most durable and thickest grade, providing the most protection and support; however, it is stiff and takes some time to break in. Split grain leather has the inner portion of the hide removed and therefore has only a thin layer for waterproofing. Though easier to break in, it is not as durable nor does it afford the support that full grain leather does.
Irish Setter, Timberland, Itasca and Rocky are some of the outstanding brands available. These hunting shoes provide good traction on many different types of surfaces as well as thick soles for shock absorption and protection from punctures.
When trying on hunting shoes, they should be snug, but not tight. You should not slide around inside nor should your heel lift off of the insole too much. Remember rubbing causes blisters. Try walking on an incline downhill to ensure that your foot does not slide within the hunting shoe. Also, shop for hunting shoes latter in the day when your foot has enlarged (which is normal for later in the day). Make sure the laces keep the boot snug for proper fit, but not too tight to cause your feet to swell. Hunting shoes should also allow your feet to breathe to prevent blistering.
