Rugby Shoes

The style of rugby shoe or rugby boot (ankle-high or mid-cut, or high-cut shoe) can make the difference in the effectiveness of a player's position.
Hookers, props and locks (or second row) need a heavier shoe than the rest of the team. They need rugby boots with 18 mm metal tips. Their best shoes should be the screw-in style with adjustable studs for different playing field conditions (hard or soft), such as a longer stud for a muddy pitch. Their shoes need to be tough and wide with the longer spikes for grinding and for pushing the scrum.
Further, props need super strength in their feet in order to lift the jumper. Try the hard-toe rugby shoe by Gilbert, Adidas or Diadora. The mid- to high-cut shoes work best although some rugby boots styles fit certain shaped feet better.
The center and fullbacks should wear mid-cut boots. The scrum-half and flanker need to be quick on their feet for quick moves and changes of direction; and, the scrum-half needs to be able to kick with either foot. Try a lighter weight show from the Adidas Predator line.
The wing's best bet is a low-cut boot. The center, wings and fullbacks should wear rugby shoes that are extra wide with a split outsole and a strong grip, similar to the Predator shoe XTRXSG line, also by Adidas.
For the forwards and some locks, strong boots with mid- to high-boots and strong traction are recommended to support the ankles. While all need flexibility, ample toe space, and good traction, the forward should have especially good traction. You should be able to find a very good pair of forward boots, like the ones at Adidas, Canterbury or Gilbert.
The best rugby boots are usually made out of kangaroo leather, and they have very secure shoelaces and removable studs. Take a look at other top brands, such as Mizuno, Asics, and Nike.
