How to Buy the Best Tennis Shoes

Here are some points to ponder before you buy your next pair of tennis shoes. Generally, tennis shoes are heavier than running shoes because of the added cushioning, extra support and sturdier outsoles needed for maneuvering on the tennis court.
Make sure that your tennis shoes bend, not back toward the arch, but in the ball/forefoot area of the shoes for the best flex point, conforming to the natural bending point of your feet. Hold the heel in one hand and press on the sole at the toe tip with the other hand to check.
Consider Your Style of Play - Serve-and-volley players tend to charge the net a lot and slide back; so, toecaps or reinforced toes on the outsoles are important. Baseline players need support for the ankles, short sprints and quick side-to-side movements as well as durable soles; they may even need more cushioning than serve-and-volley players. Check out Reebok and Lacoste.
Consider the Type of Court - Hard floor or ground court play requires more cushioning, strong, durable soles of herringbone and wide groove patterns for traction and grip Grass or clay court play requires less durability; so, rubber outsoles and tight herringbone patterns are best. Pimple outsoles perform best on grass courts.
Consider your Foot Type - If the soles of your shoes tend to erode more on the outer edges of the forefoot and heel, you need supinated tennis shoes for high arch or supinated feet. Superior shock absorbers and extra cushioning are also important; and, perhaps wide feet may be a consideration. Try Adidas, New Balance, Nike or Asics, which offer low- and high-cut tennis shoes.
If your shoes tend to wear down in the forefoot and inside areas, you need low arch tennis (or no arch for pronated feet) and lateral support; you also need extra stability in the medial areas, with perhaps a mid-cut shoe. A large-sized person also needs more lateral support for balance. Try Prince, Asics, or K-Swiss.
Check out Adidas, Asics, Nike or Lacoste. Wilson and Reebok for normal to medium high- or low- arch tennis shoes. Some brands also offer removable insoles and lacing reinforcements on their tennis sneakers.
Start your search with the best brands of tennis shoes and fit yourself with comfortable, flat tennis sneakers that have stable outsoles. Leather sport shoes or leather blend uppers afford a high quality, snug fit. The top manufacturers combine these benefits with the best cushioningg and shock absorption. Go for polyurethane and avoid EVA cushioning in your shoes.
Since the natural bending point for tennis players is in the balls of the feet, go for the best flexibility without flexing too far. Also, be sure to size both feet, allowing a thumb space between the inside tips of the shoes and your big toe for optimal fit. Your heels should fit snugly inside the shoes with ability to move a little. The heels of the shoes should be strong and not easily bent to help balance and control your swings, shots and other movements.
