Selecting Fishing Bait

Bait is a tool that fishermen use to entice fish to bite the fish hook on their fishing line. The oldest form of bait is using live worms and sticking them directly on the hook. Today, however, brands such as Optimum Baits, Berkley Powerbait, and Rapala offer bait and lures that are synthetically made to offer the highest performance and selectivity.
Lures offer many advantages over live bait when fishing. Because lures are often designed to mimic a certain prey fish, they can help you be selective in the fish you catch. There are about seven different kinds of lures used for different kinds of fishing and different kinds of fish.
Jigs are popular lures that have weighted hooks and mimic either minnow or crawfish. When using a jig, the person operating the fishing pole just has to tug on the line to make the jig bounce and wiggle like live prey. Surface lures are bait that float and mimic either bugs or fish that larger fish prey on. Some even make burbling sounds and buzzing but require the fisherman to give it movement and bring it to life.
When picking out bait, there are so many options that it can be helpful to consult an expert or someone who works at a bait shop. They an tell you whether or not you are choosing an appropriate bait for the fish you are trying to catch.
