Williams-Sonoma Stilton Cheese
In England, Stilton is not just a cheese - it's an institution. Throughout Britain, restaurants and pubs display a traditional wheel of Stilton, clothed in a white napkin, on the sideboard. Stilton was first made in the 1700s in Leicestershire, but gained its fame when it was served at a popular inn in Stilton, a town in an adjacent county. Our Stilton, from the Long Clawson Dairy in Melton Mowbray, one of only seven dairies certified to produce the cheese, lives up to Stilton's reputation as the king of cheeses. An exquisite blue-veined sharp cheese aged for three months, it has a soft, crumbly texture and makes a perfect ending to a meal. Stilton is traditionally served at room temperature with walnuts and a good port. After you've eaten the cheese, the shell remains; pour in wine and dip in chunks of bread.
