Systems Theory as an Approach to the Study of Literature : Origins and Functions of Literature

Offers an alternative view of theory in humanistic inquiry, by applying the formal apparatus and language of systems science. Treatment follows the basic tenets of systems theory as introduced by Ludwig von Bertalanffy and Ervin Laszlo, and the specific formulations of the systems method and its implications for humanistic inquiry as developed by Marian Mazur and Andrzej Wiercinski. Addresses problems such as the interactive nature of literary composition and reception, and the coding of meaning in literary texts on different associative levels.
