Registered in Cuba in 1876, La Flor de Juan López was originally made with prime Vuelta Abajo tobaccos and in less than two decades rose to top ranking in Cuba. Upon the death of Juan López-Díaz, the brand was sold to Cosme del Peso y Cía which continued its popularity through the Revolution until the 1970s when it began to lose its following, becoming a minor brand with only four models continuing to be made in the late 1980s.

Acquiring brand rights, now Altadis reincarnates the once-famous Flor de Juan López in a new formulation with 100% Havana-seed tobacco grown in Nicaragua. With loving respect for the original, the new La Flor de Juan López is handmade in Nicaragua as a dark and incredibly rich square-pressed cigar that is sure to delight the most discriminating cigar connoisseur. In our travels to Central America, we recently had the opportunity to compare the Cuban variety with the new Nicaraguan, and the verdict is hands down-the new one definitely gets the nod.
