Ken Goldstein - Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
Ken Goldstein is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of SHOP.COM, providing the strategy and vision to achieve the company's mission of being a market leader and recognized innovator in driving forward the experience of online consumer commerce. Known for his leadership and creative expertise, Goldstein joined the company in June 2006.
Previously, Goldstein served as executive vice president and managing director of Disney Online, the business unit of the Walt Disney Internet Group that produced the No. 1 entertainment destination for kids and families on the World Wide Web. Goldstein was responsible for all creative, technical, marketing, and financial initiatives surrounding the presence of the Disney brand on the Internet. Prior to Disney, Goldstein served as Broderbund Software's vice president of entertainment and founding general manager of the company's Red Orb Entertainment division. Before the formation of Red Orb Entertainment at Broderbund, he was responsible for all aspects of development on the highly acclaimed Carmen Sandiego series while supervising brand development through three television series and broad expansion of an international merchandising program. Prior to Broderbund, Goldstein worked as a designer/producer at Philips Interactive Media and Cinemaware Corporation, and for several years as a screenwriter and television executive. Goldstein is very active in children's welfare issues throughout California. He currently sits on the boards of trustees of Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services as well as the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles. Goldstein received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University.
Michael C. Boyd was a co-founder of QVC, Inc., in 1986 and he served as President until his retirement in 1994. He became a Director of SHOP.COM in September 2000.
Under his leadership, QVC achieved annual revenues in excess of $1.2 billion, grew to more than 6,000 employees and enjoyed distribution into 50 million television households. Boyd was subsequently a co-founder and President of TeleSpectrum Worldwide, Inc., bringing that company public in 1996. This roll-up of six direct marketing companies soon grew to eight companies with annual revenues of approximately $200 million. He retired from TeleSpectrum in 1998.
Prior to QVC, Boyd had an extended career in the direct response industry, holding senior positions at the Franklin Mint and Lillian Vernon Corporations.
In addition to SHOP.COM, Boyd currently serves on the governing boards of Smokestoppers, Longport, Inc., and TCIM Services.
Fredric Harman is a General Partner of Oak Investment Partners. He became a Director of SHOP.COM in April 2005.
Harman joined Oak in July, 1994 after seven years with Morgan Stanley's Venture Capital Group, where he was a General Partner. Harman's primary focus is on Internet/Enterprise software and services. While at Oak, Harman has led Internet infrastructure investments in Aventail, Exodus, Inktomi (Yahoo) and Internap. Other Internet service companies include Allyes, aQuantive, Campus Pipeline (SCT), Cobalt, FastClick, NetBlue, Qpass, and Razorgator. Enterprise application investments include Business Engine, Captura (Concur), ILOG, Knowledge Networks, Concerto (merged with Melita), Pivotal, Primus Knowledge Solutions, Quintus (Avaya), Reardon Commerce, Securant (RSA), and Talisma. He also has led outsourced services investments in Sutherland Global Services, International Manufacturing Services ("IMS") and VXI Electronics (both acquired by Celestica).
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Harman worked in Business Development at Hughes Communications where he was involved in the formation of the predecessor to DirecTV.
Harman received a MBA degree from Harvard University's Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University where he was a Hughes Fellow.
Bob Kavner is a private investor and has been active since 1995 as a venture capital investor and board member of several technology-related companies including EarthLink, idealab!, Ticketmaster-CitySearch, Ironport Systems, Jupiter Media Metrix, Overture Services, Vendare Media and Pandaora. Kavner became a Director of SHOP.COM in April 2005.
Kavner is currently the Chairman of the Board for Earthlink, Vendare and Ironport Systems. For two years in the late 1990s, Kavner was CEO of On Command Corporation, a provider of in-room video systems to the lodging industry.
From 1984 to 1994, Kavner held a number of senior level positions at AT&T. He was CEO of the Multimedia Products and Services Group and was a member of the Executive Committee of AT&T.
Prior to that, he was President of the Data Systems Division and Chairman of the Unix Systems Laboratory. Kavner was Chief Financial Officer of AT&T for his first four years at the company. During the 18 years prior to joining AT&T, Kavner was a Partner in Coopers & Lybrand and was Co-Chairman of the firm's information industry practice.
Kavner previously has been a member of the Board of FleetBoston Financial, Sun Microsystems, Olivetti, Philips Telecommunications and Duracell.
Kavner attended Adelphi University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965.
Robert A. Burgelman is the Edmund W. Littlefield Professor of Management and the Director of the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
Prior to joining Stanford in 1981, Burgelman served on the faculties of Antwerp University in Belgium and New York University. During 1991-92 he was a Marvin Bower Faculty Fellow at Harvard Business School. Burgelman is the author of Strategy is Destiny: How Strategy-Making Shapes a Company's Future (Free Press, 2002) and the co-author of Inside Corporate Innovation: Strategy, Structure, and Managerial Skills (Free Press, 1986), Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation (4th edition, McGraw-Hill-Irwin, 2004), the leading textbook in the field, and Strategic Dynamics: Concepts and Cases (McGraw-Hill, 2006).
Burgelman holds a licenciate degree in Applied Economics from Antwerp University as well as a M.A. degree in Sociology and a Ph.D. degree in Management of Organizations from Columbia University. In 2003, he received an honorary doctorate from the Copenhagen Business School for his contributions to the study of corporate innovation. Since 1992, Burgelman has taught with Andy Grove, former CEO and Chairman of Intel Corporation, an MBA elective on "Strategy and Action in Information Technology." Since 1996 Burgelman has served as the Director of the Stanford Executive Program (SEP), and has taught executive programs and led senior and top management seminars for major companies worldwide. He has also served as an adviser to company leaders and on boards of directors and advisory boards of several high-technology companies.
