Beauty Tips: Hot Hues for Spring |
Spring beauty tips to make your eyes, lips and nails pop with this season’s vivid palette.

ProMinerals Natural Mineral Lip Color | | By Lisa Cohen Lee, SHOP.COM's Beauty Tips Editor With color blooming everywhere this spring, makeup is boldly following suit: Taking its cue from the purples, blues, reds and greens that ruled the runways and recent red carpets, you’ll find a plethora of new shades in vibrant colors for lips, eyes and nails. Here are the chicest color choices and how to wear them, without looking like you had a power struggle with a paint brush. MAKE A SINGULAR SENSATION: Using color works best if you choose one feature – either lips or eyes – and make that your focus. The rest of your face should be subtle. For instance, a bright pink lipstick (like Pro Minerals Natural Mineral Lip Color in Berry Pink) should be offset by a dusting of taupe shades on your eyelids, and light peachy tones on your cheeks. GO FOR BOLD: Don't be shy this season – pick purples, blues and greens to play up your eyes. Choose a palette of varying intensities and complementary tones (like Lancôme ColorFocus Palette for Ombres). "The best way to wear intense color is to take it a few shades down. It can stay in the same color family of what you're wearing, but should be lighter and not matchy-matchy," says Sarah Lucero, a makeup artist for Stila based in Los Angeles. |
| STAY SIMPLE: With so much head turning color, cheeks are taking a backseat this spring. Look for subtle matte shades that work with your natural skin tone, and put the shimmery all-over powders on hold. A creamy formula (like Trish McEvoy Cream Blush) in a soft peach, nude or rose, can give your skin a fresh glow that doesn't overpower. "The look is about being more polished and clean," says Lucero. PAINT IT ON: Want to make a huge color statement? Show it off on your nails. Peony pinks, spicy reds, golden yellows, even deep blues are the of-the-moment hues. Punch up your toes with the brightest choice. Then go for lighter, sheerer versions of the same shade on your fingers, to keep it from clashing with your colorful clothes. Try Clinique Glosswear Nail Enamel in Coral Snap. |

THE RIGHT TOOLS
|
Hands down, makeup brushes should be the most important purchase in your kit. Look for all natural bristles, like horse hair, that deposit color in one stroke, and blend into skin easily. Shop makeup brushes

LIKE THE LINES
|
For evening, it's still about the smoky eye, only this spring, use a lighter touch. Line eyes with grey instead of black and layer soft shades of dove grey, alabaster and a hint of charcoal to finish it off. Learn how to create a smoky eye look

MAKE IT METALLIC
|
For eyes, gold and bronze are rich shades that make sunkissed skin really shine. Pop a dot of color in the middle of your lid and blend it out to give your eyes a glimmer-y, dressy sheen. Shop metallic eyeshadows

STICK TO STAINS
|
The over-glossy, plastic-y lip is so passé. Keep lips looking fresh with formulas like gels, stains or sheers. Or line lips, color in with pencil, and then top with a balm - the natural tint and healthy shine is not only kissable, but keeps dry patches and flakes from forming. Shop lip stains
