| Founded in Aube, France, in 1876 by Mr. Gamichon, The Chantelle Group began with the development of stretchable knit fabrics for lingerie, long before the invention of spandex. Together with his nephew, Mr. Kretz, whose descendants still own and run the company today, Mr. Gamichon began using his fabric for corsets, replacing the constricting styles with adjustable, breathable designs. By the time the company name was changed to its modern version in 1949, Chantelle shapewear and corsets had already revolutionized the market with comfortable styles which stayed in place as women moved. The first Chantelle bras were made available in 1961, and the company expanded into Germany soon after, followed by the United State in 1993. In the meantime, the company diversified into other intimate apparel, until it achieved status as the foremost French lingerie company in the world. Chantelle underwear styles from thongs and g-strings to Chantelle briefs and boyshorts were developed to complement the brand's expanding selection of bras and shapewear. Two underlying design techniques seem prevalent: always, a smooth and comfortable supportiveness, almost always seamless, is embellished by extremely creative lace patterns. While trends do touch the lingerie department, elegance is timeless, and Chantelle lingerie understands that a perfect fit with a touch of sophistication is appealing to every woman.
