About Dirt Devil

One of the first vacuum cleaner manufacturing companies was the P.A. Geier Company started in 1905. P.A. Geier started making metal cleaners by hand in his garage in Cleveland, Ohio and later moved to a larger building where it was split into a cleaner division and a machining division. The company produced the first hand-held vac called the “Royal Prince” in 1937. Their vacuum cleaner company stayed strong up to 1953 when P.A Geier sold the company to the investment group, the Walter E. Schott Organization. The Schotts renamed the company to Royal Appliance Manufacturing. Only a year later, they sold it to a group of their employees, headed by Stan Erbor in 1954 who stayed active in the company until his death in 1981.

In 1981, some investors purchased the company because they saw an opportunity with the already established vacuum cleaner business. They brought fresh ideas to the sales and marketing of the vacuums and with that sales grew from $5 million to $408 million in 2000 due in large part to the creation of their new product, the Dirt Devil Hand Vac in 1984. It became the largest selling hand-held corded vacuum in America and more than 23 million have been sold. This helped created many other Dirt Devil products.

Today, Royal (now named TTI Floor Care North America) manufactures Dirt Devil vacuums, Dirt Devil steamer cleaners and Dirt Devil cleaners are sold through major retailers nationwide.

Dirt Devil is a household name with products to solve any cleaning problem. The company strives to satisfy the needs of their customers and give them quality products.
