| When Peter Dooney and Frederic Bourke launched their partnership in 1975 in Connecticut, they began with two simple accessories: Dooney & Bourke surcingle belts, known for bright colors and durable yet inexpensive wool construction, and traditional suspenders. By 1981, the company had diversified, creating Dooney & Bourke handbags such as the Equestrian and the Tack Case, both made from bridle leather with solid brass hardware. Their All-Weather Leather, made from waterproof cowhide and sporting the iconic leather duck logo, followed in 1983. A special line of handbags was designed for the company by actress Hayden Panettiere in 2007 and 2008, and collaborations for exclusive lines have occurred throughout the company's history.
