| Founded in 1930 by Herman Fisher and Irving Price, Price's wife Margaret and Helen Schelle, the company focused on strong, durable toys that promote active play. Fisher-Price push and pull toys were the company's opening line, originally made from splinter-resistant Ponderosa pine and heavy steel. In the early 1950s, Fisher-Price chose plastic as a base material to help the company incorporate brighter colors into its toys. During the 1960s, the Little people line of Fisher-Price doll playsets was introduced, which quickly gained popularity, eventually becoming a part of today's Fisher-Price building sets. Mattel stepped up in 1993, taking on Fisher-Price as a major subsidiary, and the new management team placed all of its preschool products under the Fisher-Price name. After many decades, several toys remain wildly popular, like the Power Wheels Fisher-Price ride-on toys and Fisher-Price pedal powered vehicles and the Rescue Heroes Fisher-Price police rescue sets. As the most trusted name in quality toys for infants and preschool children, Fisher-Price is still loved for their classic preschool toys, but they've added innovative learning toys, award-winning baby gear and numerous licensed children's products and toys to the list of Fisher-Price favorites. Fisher-Price train sets now include Thomas the Tank Engine, for example.
