With a background which included the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York, several years of development at design houses in New York and Paris, and a history of helping other designers become famous -- including Kay Unger and Alber Elbaz - Geoffrey Beene apparel reflects originality and comfort wrapped in luxury. The man's innovative designs were first showcased in 1966, when he used flannel and wool in his ballroom gowns, creating the infamous sequined football gown a year later. Despite his tendency toward whimsy, these creative outlets were crucial to the development of his high-end brand as a whole. Men's Geoffrey Beene suits and formal separates debuted in 1969 as his first full, official collection.

The first Geoffrey Beene fragrances, Grey Flannel for men, was introduced in 1975, followed by Bowling Green in 1987, defining the only fragrances in the company's collection. However, the company is better known for their formal wear, particularly Geoffrey Beene dress shirts, ties and jackets. The designer's preference for fine fabrics is clear; exquisite wool weaves, microfiber cotton, bamboo, and woven silk are common across the collections. Although men's collections form the company's core, women's accessories are also available, including Geoffrey Beene eyewear, hats, scarves and gloves. All of the company's net profits are donated to causes that support solutions to a variety of essential medical, educational and societal issues, including cancer research, domestic violence prevention, the Save the Children campaign, and scholarship programs.
